چکیده

It is now possible to detect small variations with time of the characteristics of the transition at the bottom of the solar convection zone, as determined from the periodic signal in the frequencies. Such measurements may allow us to establish whether and in what manner the deeper convection zone changes with the solar magnetic cycle. This is important for understanding the dynamics at the base of the convection zone and the origin of the solar cycle. It will also help in understanding the physics of convective overshoot, its interaction with rotation and magnetic elds, and the eeects on the stratiication. In this work we investigate the detectability of small changes in the strat-iication at the base of the convection zone, and attempt to constrain the amplitude of the changes from currently available seismic data.

Searching for the Signature of the Magnetic Fields at the Base of the Solar Convection Zone with Solar-Cycle Variations of p-Mode Travel Time

We study the solar-cycle variations of solar p-mode travel time for different wave packets to probe the magnetic fields at the base of the solar convection zone. We select the wave packets which return to the same spatial point after traveling around the Sun with integral number of bounces. The change in onebounce travel time at solar maximum relative to minimum is approximately the same for al...

Prospects for the Detection of the Deep Solar Meridional Circulation

We perform helioseismic holography to assess the noise in p-mode travel-time shifts which would form the basis of inferences of large-scale flows throughout the solar convection zone. We also derive the expected travel times from a parameterized return (equatorward) flow component of the meridional circulation at the base of the convection zone from forward models under the assumption of the ra...

Seismic Observation of Solar Tachocline

Helioseismology has established the existence of a layer of strong gradients of angular velocity at the base of the solar convection zone. This layer (`tachocline') separates the convection zone exhibiting a strong latitudinal differential rotation from the radiative interior that rotates almost rigidly. Turbulence generated in the tachocline is likely to mix material in the upper radiative zon...

Observations show that solar activity is distributed non-axisymmetrically, concentrating at “preferred longitudes”. This indicates the important role of non-axisymmetric magnetic fields in the origin of solar activity. We investigate the generation of the non-axisymmetric fields and their coupling with axisymmetric solar magnetic field. Our kinematic generation (dynamo) model operating in a sph...

THE DYNAMICS OF MAGNETIC FLUX TUBES IN THE SOLAR CONVECTION ZONE A Study of Active Region Formation

1. Abstract We describe some of our recent work on the dynamics of ux tubes in the solar convection zone. We focus on two topics, the rst being the orientation (\tilt") of active regions, and how comparisons between observations of tilt and tilts computed from numerical simulations of ux tubes can be used to infer properties of magnetic elds deep in the solar interior. The second topic is an in...
